About this show

Craft cocktails and small plates begin at 6:45pm. General Admission seating available on a first-come basis, with preferred seating for our Baby Grand members. An evening with Sean Mason offers a brilliant look into the future of the jazz tradition. His musical style is defined by a deep-pocket, blues-and-gospel-drenched warmth seamlessly blended with a sharp, contemporary edge. SEAN MASON WEBSITE WATCH “exceptionally groovy” – NPR “a penchant for elegant melodicism” - DownBeat Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sean Mason is a GRAMMY-nominated jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music bridges deep tradition with a distinctly modern voice. His artistic roots were forged in Charlotte’s African American music community, local church ministries, and JazzArts Charlotte before he went on to earn top Billboard chart positions, including reaching No. 13 on JazzWeek and No. 4 on the NACC Jazz chart. Mason creates music grounded in melody, rhythm, and collective interaction, treating traditional jazz, swing, post-bop, and gospel as part of one evolving language. He has performed as a leader at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Monterey Jazz Festival, SFJAZZ, Ronnie Scott’s, Bimhuis, and Blue Note Milano. His work as a pianist, composer, producer, and bandleader has also earned a Bistro Award, a Bessie Award, and recognition as a Steinway Artist. Through his independent label, Taylor Christian Records, his forthcoming album, State of the Art, reunites him with bassist Felix Moseholm and drummer Domo Branch, in a project centered on spontaneity, human presence, and the living connection between jazz and dance.
